MEDELLIN, Colombia (AP) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Thursday the challenges facing Colombia will only get harder if a trade deal with Washington doesn't pass, as she met with union members during a visit to try to revive the pact.

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Groping and verbal harassment is an exasperating reality for women using public transportation in this sprawling capital, where 22 million passengers cram onto subways and buses each day. Some men treat women so badly that the subway system has long had ladies-only cars during rush hour, with police segregating the sexes on the platforms.
 
Brazil to crack down on deforestation

SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) - Brazil will try to combat deforestation in the Amazon by sending extra federal police and environmental agents to 36 cities and towns where illegal rain forest clearing jumped dramatically last year, officials said Thursday.
