LIMA, Peru (AP) - A nephew of President Alejandro Toledo's has received a four-year suspended sentence on charges he drugged and raped a 22-year-old woman, a court spokesman said Wednesday.
 
Ecuador oil workers escape pumping station

BAEZA, Ecuador (AP) - Two dozen Ecuadorean pipeline workers held hostage by protesters escaped Wednesday as soldiers and police battled to end violent demonstrations that have interrupted the flow of crude through the country's two main pipelines, officials said.
 
Arias wins Costa Rican presidential vote

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (AP) - Free trade proponent Oscar Arias won Costa Rica's presidential election by 18,167 votes, one of the country's closest races ever, according to results released Wednesday. Election judges were waiting until complaints were resolved before making an official declaration.
 
Preval says Aristide can return to Haiti
