QUITO, Ecuador (AP) - Brazil's decision to grant asylum to Ecuador's deposed President Lucio Gutierrez provoked outrage on Thursday among many Ecuadoreans who demanded that the politician remain and account for alleged abuses of power.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) - The United States has quietly given thousands of guns to the Haitian National Police and is moving to approve the sale of thousands more despite a 14-year arms embargo and allegations the force is corrupt, brutal and responsible for unjustified killings, U.S., U.N. and Haitian officials said this week.
