Bolivian farmers plan 'self-defense' units

LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) - Bolivia's largest agribusiness group said Wednesday it would form "self-defense" units to defend land it fears the country's new leftist government will confiscate to give to the poor.

Colombia's coffee ambassador to the world, Carlos Sanchez, is finally quitting after four decades of playing the role of Juan Valdez. And the national federation of Colombian coffee producers is searching for a man to inherit his poncho _ as well as his trusty mule, Conchita.

Uribe's re-election also a win for U.S.

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) - President Alvaro Uribe's landslide re-election victory wasn't only celebrated in Colombia. The clear win for the law-and-order conservative was a triumph as well for U.S. policymakers, who some observers say may be losing Latin America to a rising tide of leftist nationalism.
