Mexican official calls protest 'illegal'

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Mexico's interior secretary on Tuesday said the supporters of a leftist presidential candidate who are occupying a central part of the capital have set up an "illegal blockade" and it was up to the mayor to guarantee order.

Castro says he's stable after surgery

HAVANA (AP) - Fidel Castro said Tuesday that his health was stable after surgery, according to a statement read on state television, as the Communist government tried to impose a sense of normalcy on the island's first day in 47 years without Castro in charge.

SAN ONOFRE, Colombia (AP) - Paramilitary thugs hauled Rafael Barbosa from his mother's home on a Good Friday, accusing him of making off with bags of cocaine found floating in the Caribbean. Toughs from the same gang "disappeared" his brother Freddy soon after, because he had taken up with one of the gunmen's sisters.

HAVANA (AP) - Cuban Defense Minister Raul Castro is President Fidel Castro's staunchly loyal younger brother and his designated successor. At 75 and five years younger than Fidel, Raul is far less charismatic than his brother though far more radical.
