Report: Six die in Mexico prison riot

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Six people were stabbed or battered to death during a prison gang fight on Saturday in Ciudad Juarez, across the U.S. border from El Paso, Texas, a Mexican newspaper reported.
 
Rebels kill 5 police officers in Colombia

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) - Rebels from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia attacked a tiny village in western Colombia on Saturday, killing at least five police officers and kidnapping six others, top government officials said.
 
Guantanamo inmate tries suicide again

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - A detainee at the U.S. prison for terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay pulled stitches out of his arm this week in what was at least his tenth suicide attempt, the Justice Department said.

GUAYAQUIL, Ecuador (AP) - At 100 years old, she became bedridden and so weakened from a stomach ailment that a priest administered last rites. But Maria Esther de Capovilla recovered, and 16 years later she has become the oldest person on Earth, according to Guinness World Records.
