CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - Venezuela's ruling party took the first step Monday toward creating a single pro-government party, a move opponents criticized as a push to consolidate more power in the hands of President Hugo Chavez after his landslide re-election.
 
Venezuela, Malaysia may team on refinery

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - Venezuela and Malaysia may team up to build an oil refinery in the Asian nation, President Hugo Chavez said Monday after meeting with Malaysia's prime minister to discuss expanding trade and deepening ties.

Migrants say they will stay in Cuba

HAVANA (AP) - Cuban migrants sent back to the island this year after reaching an abandoned bridge in the Florida Keys said Monday they would not risk their lives again like the other half of their group, which took a second sea voyage to the United States last week.
