BEIJING (AP) - Chinese President Hu Jintao made a rare conciliatory gesture to Japan on Friday, offering to hold a summit with Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi if he stops visiting a war shrine that other Asian nations consider offensive.

Afghan forces kill six Taliban fighters

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) - Afghan security forces killed six Taliban fighters in an intense gunbattle in southern Afghanistan on Friday, an official said. Two Romanian peacekeepers were injured in a separate incident when a roadside bomb hit their armored vehicle, Romania's defense ministry said.
 
Thaksin wins court battle, stays in race
