TOKYO (AP) - Japan's prime minister sternly reprimanded the nation's defense minister for saying the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were an inevitable way of ending World War II, and asked him Monday to refrain from making similar remarks.

Taiwanese director Yang dies at 59

HONG KONG (AP) - Edward Yang, who won best director in 2000 at the Cannes Film Festival and was known for his realistic portrayals of modern Taiwan, has died of complications from colon cancer, a film industry consultant said Sunday. He was 59.
