U.S., Japan push for vote on N.Korea tests

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The United States and Japan insisted that the Security Council vote Saturday on a proposed resolution condemning North Korea's missile tests, and a last-minute proposal brought the divided council closer to an agreement.
 
16 killed in rebel clash with Sri Lanka

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) - Sri Lankan government troops clashed with Tamil Tiger rebels Friday in the worst fighting since a cease-fire halted the civil war in 2002, leaving as many as 16 dead, officials said. The military said 13 soldiers were missing.
