Indonesia, Aceh rebels to sign peace pact

HELSINKI, Finland (AP) - The Indonesian government and Aceh rebels agreed Sunday to sign a formal peace agreement next month, vowing to end a 29-year conflict that has killed 15,000 people in the tsunami-ravaged province.

INCHEON, South Korea (AP) - Protesters hurled rocks, bottles and eggs during a clash Sunday over the legacy of U.S. Gen. Douglas MacArthur, who landed behind North Korean lines a half-century ago and led U.N. forces in an attack that turned the tide of the Korean War.

18 killed in clashes near Afghan border

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) - Pakistani soldiers fought militants in a northwestern tribal region near the Afghan border, the military said Sunday. Eighteen people, including one soldier, died in the clash.

SRINAGAR, India (AP) - Security forces in India's portion of Kashmir killed at least 17 suspected Islamic militants on Saturday, including 13 rebels who had entered the region from Pakistan, the Indian army said.
