Two men claim hunger strike at Guantanamo

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - Two Afghans released from Guantanamo Bay claimed Wednesday about 180 Afghans at the U.S. detention facility were on a hunger strike to protest alleged mistreatment and to push for freedom.

Asia typhoon downgraded to tropical storm

SHANGHAI, China (AP) - Haitang was downgraded from a typhoon to a tropical storm as it moved into southeast China Wednesday, leaving a trail of destruction. The death toll in Taiwan and in China rose to 13.

Car bomb in Indian Kashmir kills six

SRINAGAR, India (AP) - A car bomb blew up an army jeep on Wednesday, killing five soldiers and at least one civilian and injuring 20 others near a school in an elite neighborhood of Indian Kashmir's capital, police said.
