North Korea protests military exercises

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - North Korea lashed out Tuesday after the start of joint U.S.-South Korean military exercises, saying they nullified the armistice in the 1950-53 Korean War and warning that it may take retaliatory action.

Arrests made in U.S. Consulate bombing

KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) - Police on Monday arrested two suspected al-Qaida-linked militants accused of orchestrating a suicide attack near the U.S. Consulate in Karachi that killed a U.S. diplomat and three Pakistanis, a senior police official said.

Clashes kill 71 Taliban, 5 Afghan troops

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) - Afghan and NATO troops battled Taliban insurgents with rockets, planes and artillery this weekend in Afghanistan's volatile south, leaving 71 militants and five Afghan security forces dead in one of the bloodiest clashes in five years. A British soldier was killed in a separate attack.
