Governments pledge more for quake relief

GENEVA (AP) - Governments and other donors told the United Nations on Wednesday they were pledging an additional $580 million for Pakistani earthquake victims, but U.N. officials said it was unclear how much would be earmarked for immediate relief efforts with the bitter Himalayan winter looming.

U.S., Japan strike deal on Okinawa base

U.S. says attacks kill Taliban rebels

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - American and British warplanes pounded a southern Afghan mountain, killing suspected Taliban rebels, the U.S. military said Wednesday. A provincial governor said at least six rebels were killed and four wounded.
