BEIJING, China (AP) - China and Vietnam each confirmed new bird flu outbreaks which killed thousands of birds, despite increased efforts to fight the disease. The Asian Development Bank warned that a global flu pandemic could kill up to 3 million people in Asia and plunge the world into recession.

BEIJING (AP) - China reported its fourth bird flu outbreak in three weeks Thursday, saying the virus killed nearly 9,000 chickens in a northeastern village, prompting authorities to destroy 369,900 other birds.
 
Detainee may be wanted al-Qaida suspect

QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) - One al-Qaida suspect was killed in a police raid and a second was arrested, Pakistan announced Thursday, and an official said officials are trying to determine if the detainee is a Syrian with a $5 million U.S. bounty on his head for training terrorists.
