Bomb kills Afghan district chief, 2 others

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) - A remote-controlled bomb ripped through a vehicle in volatile southern Afghanistan, killing a district government chief and two police officers, and wounding three others, authorities said Saturday.

Chinese coal mine flood traps 42 miners

BEIJING (AP) - Rescuers in central China were searching Saturday for 42 miners trapped after a flood at a coal mine, while at another mine the discovery of three more bodies brought the death toll of an explosion last week to 169, the government said.
