Activists in China call for inquiry

SHENZHEN, China (AP) - A group of Chinese activists and academics _ including one whose son was killed in the Tiananmen Square crackdown _ called Tuesday for an inquiry into the deadly police shooting of villagers protesting the seizure of land for a power plant.

China mine deaths up, despite safety vows

Kashmiri woman withdraws rape allegation

LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) - An 18-year-old survivor of Kashmir's Oct. 8 quake who stunned the nation by saying she had been raped by a doctor, withdrew the allegation Tuesday while appearing before a judge and said she had been forced to level the allegation.
