Somalis not ready to turn over weapons

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) - Ahmed Hassan has no plans to part with his AK-47, the weapon of choice in this notoriously violent city, even now that a legitimate government is functioning here for the first time in more than a decade.

Annan against sending peacekeepers to Chad

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - With the conflict in Sudan's Darfur region spilling into neighboring Chad and the Central African Republic, former Secretary-General Kofi Annan recommended against deploying U.N. peacekeepers in the two countries until all parties agree to a cease-fire and start talks.
