Ethiopian, U.S. pursue Somalia al-Qaida

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) - Ethiopian and U.S. forces were in pursuit of three top al-Qaida suspects Thursday, with a senior U.S. official confirming that none of them were killed in a U.S. airstrike and were believed to still be in Somalia.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) - Former Ethiopian dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam was sentenced to life imprisonment Thursday, ending his 12-year trial in absentia for genocide and other crimes committed during his iron-fisted rule.

U.S. hunts for key terrorists in Somalia

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) - None of the top three suspected terrorists in Somalia were killed in a U.S. airstrike this week, but Somalis with close ties to al-Qaida were slain, a senior U.S. official in the region said Thursday.
