African summit opens amid row over Sudan

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) - African leaders began their annual summit Monday in disarray, failing to resolve dissension over Sudan's bid to chair the 53-state body while it stands accused of complicity in the conflict in Western Darfur.

Kenya building collapse kills at least 11

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) - The construction workers had just finished lunch and many were taking a nap when the five-story building began to sway, then quickly collapsed, killing at least 11 and injuring dozens, survivors and officials said.

Uganda rebels kill eight U.N. peacekeepers

KINSHASA, Congo (AP) - Ugandan rebels ambushed U.N. peacekeepers in Congo on Monday, killing eight of them in a gunbattle that also left 15 attackers dead near the Sudanese border, U.N. officials said.
