Ban to press Sudan president on Darfur

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will pressure Sudan's president next week to speed up the peace process in Darfur, which has been delayed by months of wrangling over the makeup of a larger peacekeeping force, U.N. officials said Tuesday.
 
Ethiopian troops begin to leave Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) - Ethiopian troops whose military strength was crucial to helping Somalia's government drive out a radical Islamic militia began withdrawing Tuesday, raising fears of a power vacuum unless peacekeepers arrive soon in this chaotic nation.
 
U.S., British workers seized in Nigeria

PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria (AP) - Unidentified assailants seized two foreign oil workers Tuesday in the latest kidnapping in restive southern Nigeria and negotiations were under way for the return of a boatload of Filipinos missing in the area, officials said.
