Guinea's president agrees to name PM

CONAKRY, Guinea (AP) - President Lansana Conte has agreed to name a prime minister in what could be a move toward relinquishing some of his power in the West African country, observers to negotiations between the government and unions said Wednesday.
 
Ban says Eritrea-Ethiopia war possible

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon warned in a report released Wednesday that another war could break out between feuding neighbors Ethiopia and Eritrea if progress is not urgently made on a stalled peace process.
 
Mortars hit Somalia's airport, killing 2

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) - Gunmen launched mortars Wednesday on Mogadishu International Airport, killing at least two people a day after powerful troops from neighboring Ethiopia began withdrawing from this chaotic nation.
 
Congo rebels vow to end gorilla killings

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) - Rebels in eastern Congo have agreed to stop killing mountain gorillas and allow government rangers to restart patrols, conservationists said Wednesday. Earlier this month, rebels allegedly killed and ate two silverback mountain gorillas, according to field reports collected by London-based Africa Conservation Fund.
 
Analysis: Ethiopian pull out tests peace

Sudan plane hijacker surrenders in Chad

N'DJAMENA, Chad (AP) - A hijacker seized a Sudanese passenger plane carrying 103 people on Wednesday and forced the pilot at gunpoint to fly to the Chadian capital, N'Djamena, where he surrendered, officials said.
