U.N. chair wants Liberia sanctions lifted

MONROVIA, Liberia (AP) - The chairwoman of the U.N. committee overseeing sanctions on Liberia said Saturday she hoped the measures imposed on the diamond and timber industries would soon be lifted thanks to progress the country has made.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - U.N. Security Council members agree the war crimes trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor should be moved from Sierra Leone to the Netherlands and could adopt a resolution next week to allow the transfer, the council president said.
