Rwanda rebels urged to disarm as promised

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The U.N. Security Council on Tuesday urged Rwandan rebels operating in eastern Congo to make good on their promises and hand over their weapons to United Nations peacekeepers.

KINSHASA, Congo (AP) - Human rights activists charged Tuesday that U.N. peacekeepers knowingly gunned down civilians in a raid that targeted a marketplace, pinning down dozens of people down during the biggest gunbattle in the U.N.'s six-year mission in Congo.
 
Angola struggles to contain viral outbreak

LUANDA, Angola (AP) - Disease experts struggling to contain the largest recorded outbreak of the Marburg virus said Tuesday it will take weeks to determine whether a long-term crisis can be averted in Angola, where the disease already has killed at least 194 people.
 
U.S. hails Rwanda group's disarmament plan
