Son of strongman guns for Togo presidency

LOME, Togo (AP) - Togo voters ignored reports of violence to elect a new president Sunday, choosing from among the son of their late dictator and two rivals in an effort to put democracy on track after months of turmoil caused by the sudden death of Africa's longest-serving ruler.
 
Zanzibar ruling party official found dead

ZANZIBAR, Tanzania (AP) - Police were investigating Sunday whether the killing of the ruling party's representative in charge of monitoring voter registration was politically motivated after his body was found on his farm in the violent run-up to Zanzibar's general elections.
