Late Togo dictator's son wins presidency

LOME, Togo (AP) - The son of Togo's late dictator won a resounding victory in a presidential election, sending enraged opposition supporters into the streets Tuesday. Protesters built flaming barricades and used machetes and nail-studded clubs to battle police and soldiers, clashes that left more than 100 people injured.
 
New Togo president vows break with past

LOME, Togo (AP) - Faure Gnassingbe could not have become president of this troubled West African country without the support of the military, but he says he cannot lead Togo unless he breaks with the undemocratic past.
