PORT LOUIS, Mauritius (AP) - Voters in the Indian Ocean nation of Mauritius cast their ballots in parliamentary elections after a campaign in which the governing coalition and the main opposition alliance ran a close race.
 
Good intentions often go bad in Africa

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) - Africa is filled with good intentions that ended badly. Half-completed hydroelectric dams covered with weeds, empty irrigation pipes decaying in the equatorial sun and roads that literally lead to nowhere dot the continent, testaments to corruption and bad judgment. Despite billions of dollars in aid, Africa has gone backward since the 1970s on every measurable level.
 
Ugandan leader shows signs of backsliding

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) - Former President Clinton called him a new kind of African leader and international donors tripped over themselves in granting him cash and praise. Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni said all the right things and brought stability to one of Africa's biggest problem countries.
 
Tutu, wife celebrate 50th anniversary

SOWETO, South Africa (AP) - Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his wife, Leah, were joined by Nelson Mandela, friends and family at a thanksgiving service to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. The retired Anglican archbishop and his spouse exchanged rings and renewed their vows on Saturday before their daughter, Reverend Mpho Tutu, in a packed Holy Cross Church in Orlando, Soweto.
