Groups discuss peacekeepers for Africa

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The European Union and the United Nations are discussing the possibility of sending an EU peacekeeping force to Chad and Central African Republic for six months to help those affected by the spillover from the Darfur conflict, U.N. diplomats said Friday.

U.S. envoy blasts Sudan for attacks

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) - The U.S. envoy to Sudan accused the country's government on Friday of resuming bombing civilian positions in its troubled Darfur region, and warned of a "disturbing" trend of Arab groups resettling in the area.

U.N. opens Congo gold-trafficking probe

KINSHASA, Congo (AP) - The investigative arm of the U.N. mission in Congo has opened an inquiry into allegations that Indian peacekeepers serving in this central African nation are illicitly trafficking in gold, a spokesman said Friday.
