Congo's militia groups agree to disarm

BUNIA, Congo (AP) - The last two main militia groups in Congo's most troubled province agreed to disarm in exchange for amnesty and army positions, officials said Thursday as violence erupted in the capital reportedly killing seven people ahead of historic weekend elections.
 
Nigerian politician found dead in home

LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) - A leading Nigerian politician was found strangled in his home Thursday, a police spokesman said. Funsho Williams, a potential candidate for governor of wealthy Lagos state, defected from the opposition three years ago to join the ruling party.

KINSHASA, Congo (AP) - Fire broke out at a camp of militiamen attached to a main Congolese presidential candidate Thursday, and explosions could be heard behind the camp's walls. Candidate and former rebel leader Jean-Pierre Bemba's home, a two-story building behind the camp, was untouched.
