U.N. chief: momentum in Darfur

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Friday called the coming months crucial in the quest for peace in Darfur, following political momentum and approval of a joint African Union-U.N. peacekeeping force to stem the violence.

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) - An estimated 27,000 people have fled Somalia's violent capital since June, part of an exodus that has sent a fifth of Mogadishu's 2 million residents fleeing for safety, the U.N. said Friday.
