6 African nations pledge Darfur troops

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) - Six African countries have given written pledges to contribute more than 12,000 troops to an African Union-United Nations peacekeeping force in Sudan's Darfur, a senior African Union official said Monday.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - Britain is proposing the United Nations start planning for the possible deployment of U.N. peacekeepers to take over for an African Union force struggling to keep the peace in war-torn Somalia, according to a draft Security Council resolution circulated Monday.
