Group: 31 killed in Mogadishu in a day

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) - Grenade attacks, bombs and gunbattles killed 31 civilians in Mogadishu in the most violent 24 hours the Somali capital had seen in two months, a local human rights group said Tuesday.
 
Ex-militant injured in Algeria bombing

ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) - A car bomb exploded Tuesday in an eastern suburb of Algeria's capital, severely injuring a former militant leader who has in recent years supported the president's efforts to end extremist violence, security forces said.
 
Action urged on Zimbabwe rights

LUSAKA, Zambia (AP) - Human Rights Watch on Tuesday urged southern African leaders to send monitors to Zimbabwe to investigate the clampdown on the pro-democracy movement and the growing spiral of violence and intimidation against activists.
