U.N. OKs troops near Darfur

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The Security Council gave the European Union and the U.N. the green light Monday to prepare for a military and police deployment to help protect civilians in Chad and the Central African Republic caught in the spillover of the Darfur conflict.
 
Ethiopia expels 6 Norwegian diplomats

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) - Ethiopia has ordered six Norwegian diplomats to leave the country by Sept. 15, expressing "dissatisfaction" with Norway's conduct in the Horn of Africa region, Norwegian officials said Monday.
 
Sudan expels head of CARE for country

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - The head of CARE International's operations in Sudan was expelled Monday after a year of directing one of the biggest private aid efforts in the Darfur region, the organization said.
 
Truck crash kills 72 people in Uganda

KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) - A truck carrying soldiers and their families overturned in eastern Uganda, killing 72 people and injuring 40 others, the army spokesman said Monday.
