U.N. OKs Sudan peacekeepers resolution

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The U.N. Security Council passed a resolution Thursday that would give the United Nations authority over peacekeepers in Darfur as soon as Sudan's government gives its consent _ which it has so far refused to do.

Uganda sets emergency plan for displaced

KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) - The government has drafted an emergency resettlement plan for the close to 2 million people displaced by the brutal 19-year northern Uganda insurgency, the prime minister said Thursday, two days after a truce with rebels began.
