Chad supports planned Darfur peace talks

N'DJAMENA, Chad (AP) - The U.N. chief won Chad's backing for a Darfur peace conference during a visit Friday to this poverty-stricken central African nation that has become home to tens of thousands of refugees fleeing the conflict in neighboring Sudan.

Congo fighting erupts again in east

KINSHASA, Congo (AP) - New clashes erupted Friday between a renegade general's forces and government troops in eastern Congo, and the U.N. said violence was hampering efforts to deliver food to tens of thousands of displaced civilians.

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) - The United Nations and the African Union have just seven weeks to persuade major rebel factions to attend new Darfur peace talks in Libya _ a tough job because a key rebel leader immediately rejected any negotiations until there is a cease-fire.
