White Kenyan tried for killing black man

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) - A descendant of Kenya's most famous white settlers fatally shot a black man on his vast estate simply because the man was poaching a gazelle, not because he posed any threat, a prosecutor said Monday in a case that has stirred racial tensions in East Africa.
 
Demonstrations turn violent in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) - Fears of regional conflict soared as angry demonstrations against Somalia's radical Islamic militia grew Monday into deadly violence in a southern port city, and the militia for the first time acknowledged getting help from foreign Muslims.
 
AP: Somali PM wants U.N. to lift embargo

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) - Somalia's interim prime minister called on the United Nations to partially lift an arms embargo on his country to allow for the deployment of African peacekeepers, which he said are necessary to stop the advance of Islamic radicals.
