Algerian insurgent group rejects amnesty

ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) - A banned Algerian Islamic group with ties to al-Qaida rejected an amnesty for Islamic militants, saying in a statement on its Web site that it had no need for a government peace plan.
 
S. African gets life for lion-pen death

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) - In a case that shocked South Africa for its brutality, a white farmer was sentenced to life in prison Friday for the murder of one of his black workers, who was attacked with machetes, tied up and thrown into a lion enclosure, where he was devoured.
