Report: Wars in Africa siphoned billions

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) - Africa's nearly two dozen wars in recent decades have robbed the continent of about $18 billion a year that could have gone to helping one of the world's poorest regions build stronger economies, according to a report being released Thursday.

Congo army retakes rebel-held villages

KINSHASA, Congo (AP) - Government troops retook three villages Wednesday from fighters loyal to a rebel warlord in eastern Congo, after four days of fighting that reportedly killed more than 100 combatants, U.N. officials said.
