U.N. briefed on Somalia arms trading

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The authors of a controversial U.N. report that accused 10 countries of providing weapons, money and training to rival sides in Somalia briefed a Security Council committee Friday amid denials and complaints from many of those named.

Heavy rains flood parts of East Africa

Sudan apparently will OK peacekeepers

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) - A top Sudanese official on Friday signaled that Khartoum would accept U.N. troops as part of an African-led peacekeeping mission in Darfur, but perhaps not as many as the West has asked for under an agreement aimed at ending the continuing violence.

Sudan agrees to joint peacekeeping force

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) - Sudan agreed in principle to a plan that will permit an international force to bolster African troops in Darfur, but almost immediately signaled it will be difficult to progress from an accord to real change in one of the world's bloodiest conflict zones.
