U.S. calls for regional Somalia force

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The United States circulated a U.N. Security Council draft resolution Friday that would authorize a regional force to protect Somalia's weak government and threaten Security Council action against those who block peace efforts and attempt to overthrow it.
 
Darfur's violence spreads across borders

Floods in East Africa said to kill 250

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) - About 250 people have been killed and 100,000 have lost their homes as catastrophic floods ravaged East Africa, aid workers said Friday as rains continued to pound the impoverished region.
