U.N. chief: Darfur is in 'free fall'

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The conflict in Darfur has spread to two neighboring countries and is now in "free fall" with six million people facing the prospect of going without food or protection, the outgoing U.N. humanitarian chief said Tuesday.

Rebels threaten to withdraw peace deal

U.N. reduces staff in 6 camps in Chad

GENEVA (AP) - Rising violence along Chad's border with Sudan is forcing the United Nations to reduce staff in six camps to a bare minimum and cut back on programs for more than 100,000 Darfur refugees already living in precarious conditions, the global body's refugee agency said Tuesday.
