Nigeria ruling party nixes vice presiden

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) - A court ruled Friday that the vice president's suspension from Nigeria's dominant political party was unconstitutional, potentially clearing the way for him to run for president on the party's ticket in the upcoming election.

Militants to hold hostages indefinitely

LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) - A militant group in Nigeria's oil-rich delta said Friday it will hold four foreign hostages "indefinitely" to press for the release of two of the region's jailed leaders and compensation from an oil company for alleged pollution.

Fighting breaks out in Somalia town

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) - Fighting broke out Friday in the southern Somali town taken by the Islamic militias that control much of the country, but the government denied claims that Ethiopian troops had led an attack.
