Somalia PM says government surrounded

BAIDOA, Somalia (AP) - Thousands of Islamic militants have surrounded the only town Somalia's internationally recognized government controls, the prime minister said Tuesday as a top Islamic official promised to attack within a week unless troops from neighboring Ethiopia leave.
 
Annan urges U.N. council to act on Sudan

GENEVA (AP) - His time at the helm of the world body nearing an end, U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan stepped up his efforts Tuesday to force a halt to atrocities in Darfur, demanding the U.N. Human Rights Council send an independent team of investigators to the volatile Sudanese region.
