Annan sending special envoy to Sudan

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - Secretary-General Kofi Annan is sending a special envoy to Sudan to try to clarify the status of a U.N.-African Union peacekeeping force for conflict-wracked Darfur, U.N. officials said Monday.
 
Nigerian militants strike oil properties

PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria (AP) - Militants seeking a greater share of oil revenues for their impoverished region detonated two car bombs nearly simultaneously Monday in southern Nigeria, the latest in a series of attacks that have cut crude production in Africa's oil giant by one quarter.
 
War stalks Somalia's 'City of Death'

An Islamic movement, accused of having al-Qaida terrorists in its ranks, and a new U.N.-backed government struggling to end 15 years of anarchy are vying for control of this nation and girding for battle.
 
At least 80 killed while on way to Spain

ST. LOUIS, Senegal (AP) - A fishing boat crowded with more than 100 African migrants capsized at least twice while sailing to Spain's Canary Islands, spilling passengers and leaving scores dead as survivors drifted for about 10 days without food or water, officials said Monday.
