Islamic forces abandon Somali stronghold

KISMAYO, Somalia (AP) - Islamic fighters abandoned the last major town they held early Monday and were seen heading south toward the Kenyan border while government forces approached slowly because of land mines, residents and the government spokesman said.

Sudan forces bomb rebel areas in Darfur

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - Sudanese forces bombed two rebel locations in Darfur just days after the head of the African Union's peacekeeping force visited the area to urge the rebels to join a cease-fire agreement, the AU said Sunday.
