Fire, stampede at Egypt theater kills 29

BENI SUEF, Egypt (AP) - A fire that began when an actor knocked over a candle on the set of a play ripped through a crowded theater in this central Egyptian city late Monday, sparking a stampede of audience members and killing at least 29 people, survivors and officials said.
 
Most-wanted terrorist dies in Saudi clash

DAMMAM, Saudi Arabia (AP) - Saudi security forces battled heavily armed suspected al-Qaida members holed up in a sea-front apartment building Monday, a day after two militants _ one of them the kingdom's No. 3 most-wanted terrorist _ died in the fighting.
 
Militants attack Iraq's Interior Ministry

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Insurgents launched a daring daylight assault Monday against the Interior Ministry in Baghdad, killing two police in a surge of attacks by al-Qaida's arm in Iraq. Two British soldiers died in a roadside bombing in the south.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) - A mysterious blast after nightfall Monday leveled a building in Gaza City, killing four people and wounding at least 30, residents and hospital officials said. The violent Islamic Hamas group blamed Israel, but the Israeli military said it was not involved.
 
'Honor killing' feud shows Arab divide

TAIBEH, West Bank (AP) - It began as yet another "honor killing," still relatively common in the Arab world: a young Muslim woman was poisoned, allegedly by her family, over an extramarital affair. But in a twist, her lover was a Christian _ and 13 of his relatives' homes were burned by an angry mob, all Muslims from the dead woman's clan.
