Progressive wins 2nd round in Burlington

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Progressive Bob Kiss was elected mayor of Vermont's largest city Tuesday, winning on the second ballot of instant runoff voting under the city's new election system.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - In a March 4 story about instant runoff voting, The Associated Press, relying on city officials and other authorities, reported erroneously that Burlington, Vt., would be the first city in the country to use the system to elect a mayor. Ann Arbor, Mich., used instant runoff voting to elect a mayor in 1975, but repealed the system a year later.
 
New Orleans mayoral candidate jailed
