UNITED NATIONS (AP) - President Bush sought to blunt anti-Americanism across the Middle East on Tuesday, asserting that extremists are trying to justify their violence by falsely claiming the U.S. is waging war on Islam. He singled out Iran and Syria as sponsors of terrorism.
 
Cheney says hopes of world rest on U.S.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney cast the global war on terror on Tuesday as a "war of nerves," borrowing a phrase Harry Truman used to describe the Cold War. Cheney asserted that the hopes of the civilized world depend on a U.S. victory.
 
First lady urges swift action on Myanmar

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - First lady Laura Bush on Tuesday called for Myanmar's military rulers to release imprisoned pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi and urged the U.N. Security Council to issue a swift resolution condemning the junta.
