Court rejects police immunity from lawsuit

WASHINGTON (AP) - A federal appeals court refused Friday to exempt two top police officials in the nation's capital from a lawsuit filed on behalf of nearly 400 people who were corralled at a city park and arrested during protests at the World Bank-International Monetary Fund annual meeting in 2002.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The recent spikes in violence in Iraq are coming more from religious extremists, mercenaries and groups who oppose democracy rather than al-Qaida, the number two U.S. commander in Iraq said Friday.
 
Israeli envoy accepts Robertson's apology

WASHINGTON (AP) - Israel accepts the apology of the Rev. Pat Robertson for implying that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was struck down by God for giving up the Gaza strip, Ambassador Daniel Ayalon said Friday.
