BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - The European Union threatened Microsoft Corp. on Friday with new fines if the software company doesn't make it easier and cheaper for competitors to see the blueprints of its server software.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Lawyers filed into a federal courtroom Friday for the first pre-trial hearing in the federal Vioxx liability case, the start of a legal process expected to be complex, years-long and potentially very costly for the painkiller's maker, Merck & Co.
 
WorldCom board OKs $20.25M settlement

NEW YORK (AP) - Eleven former board members of WorldCom Inc. have agreed to pay $20.25 million of their own money to settle a lawsuit by former investors in the company, New York State Comptroller Alan Hevesi said Friday.
 
Wal-Mart escapes criminal charges in case

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. escaped criminal charges but agreed Friday to pay $11 million, a record fine in a civil immigration case, to end a federal probe into its use of illegal immigrants to clean floors at stores in 21 states.
 
EU, U.S. spar over aircraft subsidies
